The ASIA-Livelihood Project, focusing on the southwestern coastal region of Bangladesh, aims to empower local communities, particularly women, and enhance climate resilience through a multifaceted approach. The project builds on previous efforts to promote climate-smart agriculture, restore ecosystems, and elevate marginalized voices, especially those of women farmers who face unique challenges such as waterlogging and salinity. This initiative integrates traditional knowledge with innovative practices like Tidal River Management (TRM) and indigenous seed conservation to improve agro-ecology and food security. By fostering youth advocacy and empowering women in leadership and decision-making roles, the project seeks to enhance gender equality and economic opportunities. Market linkages will be strengthened to support local producers, while addressing social safety net inefficiencies and creating platforms for community engagement. The overarching goal is to improve livelihoods, bolster community resilience to climate change, and protect the environment through sustainable, community-led efforts across the Kapotakha and Betna river basins.
Goal: To promote community-driven and climate-adaptive governance of Southwest’s tidal river basins that provide the rural youth with a bright future based on agroecological and climate smart agricultural practices.
